Last year on July 12th our 27 year old Syrian newcomer friend Abdul arrived here with a little English, a suitcase full of summer clothes, a cell phone and a bunch of ambition to make a life here in Canada.
He has come through his first winter with a love of snow (not enough for him) basic English and most importantly his first full time job! He has a background as a baker and has landed a job on the night shift at a European bakery in Kitchener where he is living.

The hitch is that his shift ends after midnight which is when Kitchener Transit stops running. He’s borrowing a vehicle and getting rides when he can but the practical solution would be an inexpensive car which would also enable him to get another part time job and get quickly from one job to the next.
Here’s where the community can help. If you know of a decent car for sale for under $10,000 with less than 150,000 km on it Abdul would like to hear about it. He’s looking for an automatic or standard 4 cylinder engine or hybrid to keep costs down. The hunt is on so please contact Cathy Hansen 519 362 7906 if you have any leads or suggestions.
Other Good News!
Erin Refugee Action has been featured in an article on the front page of the Wellington Advertiser today. Please take a look and share our story with friends and family. It takes a village and this little village is leading the way in compassionate outreach to people with no hope but clearly so much potential.
As an ERA supporter this story is about you too!
